New Zealand NH90s take up responsibilities
Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) NH90 transport helicopters continue to take up greater mission responsibilities, as demonstrated by the type’s transition from the Helicopter Transition Unit (HTU) into No.3 Squadron.
The HTU had been created specifically to oversee the introduction into service of both the RNZAF’s new NH90 and AgustaWestland A109.
While No.3 Squadron has continued to operate the aging UH-1H Iroquois helicopters, the NH90 is assuming an increasing amount of the former’s roles. All rotary-winged transport assets now fall under the No.3 Squadron banner while the eighth and final NH90 was delivered in October 2014.
