Russian Helicopters displays upgraded Mi-171Sh
The initial flying prototype of the upgraded Mi-171Sh helicopter is being exhibited for the first time on 23-29 August during the Army 2020 show.
The ‘Storm’ helicopter was manufactured at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant.
Enhanced features include upgraded engines, an improved composite main rotor and X-shaped tail rotor, as well as latest version of the President-S onboard missile defence system.
Improved armament includes 12.7mm machine guns and guided missile weapons with the OPS-24N-1L target sight system, which allows various ground and air targets to be engaged.
Andrey Boginsky, general director of manufacturer Russian Helicopters, referred to enhanced ‘titanium and kevlar armor protection’.
Russian Helicopters has also developed the IBKV-17VP glass cockpit avionics suite for integration with the upgraded Mi-171Sh.
Mi-171Sh is the export version of the Mi-8AMTSh multirole military helicopter. According to Shephard Defence Insight, it is designed to carry up to 36 fully equipped assault troops and provide them with fire support. Other missions include casevac, SAR and CSAR.
