SAS14: Doubts linger over navy’s MH-60 order
Pentagon plans to cut the number of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) procured will not result in an immediate reduction in the planned number of MH-60 helicopters fielded, although uncertainly remains.
US defence secretary Chuck Hagel announced plans at the end of February to restrict the number of LCS ships built to 34 vessels rather than the 52 ships originally scheduled.
The move has consequently cast a shadow of the navy’s MH-60 helicopter requirement, which currently stands at some 298 Romeos and 275 Sierra models.
