Twin FMS deals support ballistic missile defence in Saudi Arabia and UAE
Saudi Arabia and the UAE are requesting missile defence equipment from the US under the FMS programme.
Panasonic eX2 for Air France?s new 777s
AIR FRANCE has ordered Panasonic’s eX2 in-seat IFE system for ten new Boeing 777-300ERs. The first aircraft is scheduled to enter service in March 2010.
Air France subsidiary KLM has been operating eX2 on its own 777-300ERs since the beginning of this year. “That experience will help us to get the most out of the installations on the Air France aircraft,” says senior marketing VP Patrick Roux.
Panasonic says that more than 900 examples of eX2 have now been ordered by international carriers worldwide.
The Lake Forest, California-based company last week announced that it was working with US software provider CoKinetic Systems to create what they described as an “IFE developers’ marketplace” - a range of applications for use by airlines developing customised entertainment, advertising and transactional capabilities to run on their Panasonic hardware.
CoKinetic is best known for its AirPlay software platform, which forms the basis of Virgin America’s acclaimed Red IFE service. Airplay Marketplace will integrate, enhance and extend several of the tools and services that Panasonic already offers to its customers. They include the OneMedia ad management system and passenger hospitality and shopping applications.
“Airplay Marketplace will give advertisers, merchants and application publishers a convenient way to develop and deploy new features, as well as opening up our platform to many more developers,” says Panasonic Avionics chief executive Paul Margis. “It will give developers easy access to Panasonic system features, usage reporting, payment capture, and data upload and offload, allowing them to focus on applications and advertisements.”
