Vulcano makes long-awaited arrival
Fincantieri delivered the logistic support ship Vulcano to the Italian Navy on 12 March, following a lengthy delay.
LSS Vulcano is part of a wider programme for the renewal of the Italian Navy which will also provide seven PPA patrol vessels, with an option for a further three, as well as a one landing helicopter dock.
Four ships based on the Vulcano design are also being built for the French Navy.
These fleet replenishment ships (called BRF - Bâtiments Ravitailleurs de Force) have been procured to provide long-term support for France's blue-water combat fleet by supplying fuel, ammunition, spare parts and food.
