AMRAAM-ER moves closer to NASAMS integration
Raytheon Missiles & Defense and Kongsberg have completed the first live-fire test of an extended-range AMRAAM-ER missile for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS).
‘We are now one step closer to certification, production and final integration of the [AMRAAM-ER] weapon into NASAMS,’ said Paul Ferraro, VP of Air Power at Raytheon Missiles & Defense.
The live-fire test, conducted at the Andoya Space Defence Centre in Norway, ‘provided critical flight data that will be used to improve the missile’s future software algorithms’, Raytheon claimed in a 12 May statement.
It added that the test team also used a new NASAMS launcher that can accommodate the larger size of AMRAAM-ER.
