Future could be ROSY for vehicle smokescreens in Germany

The Bundeswehr has tested integration of the Rheinmetall ROSY smokescreen protection system on various vehicles, as an improvement on its existing capabilities.

The Defence Technical Service for Weapons and Ammunition (WTD 91) in Germany has tested the Rapid Obscurant System Land (ROSY) smokescreen system from Rheinmetall on various platforms, as it attempts to enhance protection of its vehicle fleet.

On 6 January, the Bundeswehr website released pictures and video footage of a trial in Meppen, Lower Saxony, in which a WLS swap body logistics truck fired the ROSY smoke munition.

Obscurant smoke from ROSY is deemed by the Bundeswehr to take effect more rapidly than its existing system; this could 'make the difference between life and death in an emergency', it noted.
