RFEL to supply driver vision aid for Boxer MIV
RFEL will supply its TRAILBLAZER driver vision aid for the Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme over a ten-year period, under a £28 million ($39.5 million) contract from Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) and Rheinmetall.
According to RFEL, TRAILBLAZER improves driver and crew effectiveness by extending visibility beyond the normal daylight spectrum, overcoming adverse weather and low-light conditions with enhanced thermal imagery.
The technology operates individual camera clusters fitter around the vehicle allowing for crew members to benefit from a full 360° panoramic situational awareness capability.
Cameras also feature high-performance electro-optics covering the visible and thermal spectrum, together with RFEL’s Video Fusion technology.
RFEL will deliver 400 TRAILBLAZER units per year with in-service support spanning 30 years.
The MIV programme will see 523 vehicles delivered for $3.6 billion, Shephard Defence Insight notes.
