Chile picks design partner for Escotillón IV
An amphibious and military transport vessel will be designed by Canada-based Vard Marine for the Chilean Navy, under the Escotillón IV programme to modernise fleet transport operations.
The new vessels will be based on existing Vard Series 7 designs and will be adapted to the specific requirements of the Chilean Navy.
The new ship will incorporate ‘the latest generation of integrated well-dock systems enabling the carriage and deployment of a wide range of containerised and vehicle cargo, landing craft, helicopters and rescue boats’, Vard noted in a 1 February press release.
