Poland reaffirms its commitment to Miecznik but Swedish sub talks stutter
Following uncertainty over the future of the Miecznik (Swordfish) programme for the Polish Navy, Minister of Defence Mariusz Błaszczak has confirmed that up to three new vessels will be built in Poland with input from with the domestic shipbuilding and defence industry.
‘Certainly, we will start with the construction of the first vessel. I’d like to see all three frigates built eventually, but the process will start with a single one,’ said Błaszczak.
In contrast to the encouraging signs for Miecznik, Błaszczak reported problems in an attempt to lease or buy two second-hand Södermanland-class submarines.
