SOFINS: Long endurance UAV to protect air bases
The French military presented the hydrogen fuel cell-powered Long Endurance Multi-Mission (LEMM) multi-rotor UAV, which is claimed to have 'an unprecedented endurance within its class'.
At the SOFINS exhibition, near Bordeaux, a French Air Force non-commissioned officer (NCO) attached to the LEMM project explained to Shephard the benefits of using hydrogen fuel cells.
'Standard multi-rotor UAVs of this size can fly for 20 to 30 minutes. Here, we have an aircraft which can remain in the air for two hours with a one kilogram payload,' he said.
