The US DoD confirmed on 11 June that it plans to provide $250 million in FY2020 Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds.

The package will support additional training, equipment and advisory efforts to help Ukraine enhance its capability to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Approximately $125 million of the USAI funds were conditional on Ukraine’s progress in defence sector reforms, including anti-corruption measures.

Training and support will be achieved through strengthening defensive lethal capabilities and situational awareness in the maritime domain, air surveillance systems to monitor sovereign airspace, C2 and survivability of Ukraine’s land and special operations forces through the provision of counter-artillery radars and tactical equipment, military medical treatment and combat evacuation procedures, and cyber defence and strategic communications to handle Russian cyber-attacks and misinformation.
