USSOCOM requests continued support for helicopter EO/IR system
Raytheon Intelligence & Space has received another order from US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) under an IDIQ sensor system support contract.
The latest $10.66 million order until September 2021 takes the cumulative value of the contract to $58 million, the DoD noted on 23 April.
Raytheon will continue to provide lifecycle contractor support services for the AN/ZSQ-2 FLIR and EO Sensor System, which are currently installed on all MH-47 and MH-60 SOF helicopters assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
The AN/ZSQ-2 is a multi-sensor EO/IR turreted system that contains three imaging sensors (day colour TV, IR camera with staring array detector and image-intensified TV). The sensors are coaxially mounted on a four-field of view telescope.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, the ‘Assault’ version of the AN/ZSQ-2 has a laser pointer and eye-safe laser rangefinder, while the ‘Attack’ variant has a laser pointer, laser spot tracker and laser designator/rangefinder.
